an older child studying a globe on their own

As a mum of children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), I bring both lived experience and a child-led learning approach to my tutoring.

I understand the unique challenges that children with ADHD, autism, PDA and other learning differences face, and I tailor my sessions to meet their individual needs, strengths, and interests.

I create a warm, empathetic, and patient environment where each child is empowered to take control of their own learning. In 1-to-1 sessions, I provide flexible, child-centred strategies and tools that suit each student’s learning style, allowing them to explore their interests and engage with the material in a way that feels right for them.

With interactive activities, visual aids, and assistive technology, I ensure that students are actively involved in their learning process. My goal is to build confidence, foster independence, and provide the support and structure that helps each child succeed academically and personally.

Personalised Support:

I recognise that each child is unique, and the journey to success looks different for every student, especially when it comes to those with SEND. My approach to tutoring is flexible and tailored to the specific needs of each individual, whether it’s through using assistive technology, creating hands-on activities, or adapting teaching methods to best fit their learning style. This personalised attention helps students build confidence in their abilities, ensuring that they don’t feel overwhelmed by challenges, but are empowered to tackle them head-on.

Creating an Inclusive Learning Environment: Inclusion is at the heart of everything I do. I strive to create an environment where children with SEND feel not only supported but also valued for their unique perspectives. By fostering an inclusive atmosphere, I ensure that every child has a sense of belonging, which is vital for their self-esteem and motivation. When students feel understood and accepted, they are more likely to engage with the learning process and push themselves to reach their potential.

Building Skills Beyond Academics: Working with children who have SEND isn’t just about academic progress—it’s also about building life skills that help them navigate the world with confidence. My tutoring approach integrates emotional support, social skills development, and the fostering of resilience, all of which contribute to a child’s overall growth. I believe that learning is not just about knowledge, but also about developing the skills to manage challenges, build relationships, and work independently.

Encouraging Self-Advocacy and Confidence: One of my main goals is to encourage self-advocacy in my students. I want them to feel confident in expressing their needs, asking questions, and taking ownership of their learning. Through a combination of tailored lessons, positive reinforcement, and open communication, I empower SEND students to become confident learners who understand their strengths and can advocate for the support they need, both inside and outside the classroom.

Sessions

Home Visits for SEND Tuition: I offer 1-to-1 tutoring in the comfort of your own home, with sessions priced at £40 per hour. This service allows students to learn in a familiar, comfortable environment where they can focus and feel at ease. I work closely with parents to tailor the tutoring approach to each child’s unique needs, interests, and learning style, ensuring lessons are both engaging and effective.

For families within my regular route, I can travel to your home for sessions during school day hours. If your location is outside of my usual route, a small mileage surcharge will be added. I also take the time to get a sense of the environment your child would like to work towards, ensuring we are focused on areas they want to improve, whether that’s academic performance, confidence, or other learning goals.
